Clean Yangon to make Yangon Clean and Green

Yangon is the commercial city of Myanmar with over 5 million people residing. It has a mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-building, and Buddhist pagodas. But, the beauty of Yangon city was distracted by many factors such as trash and betel nut spiting.

So, it had been a critical issue for everyone in Myanmar, especially people living in Yangon. Now, a group of responsible people starts to do something change in order to make Yangon clean and green. How do they make it? Let’s find out.

“Clean Yangon is a charity organization, beginning in 2017 May 10 with over 50 charity organizations from Myanmar. It is basically doing cleaning up activities in Yangon and the environmental activities to make Yangon clean and green.”

“Currently, Clean Yangon is doing an education campaign about trash at school and special talk.”

“On March 6th, 2019, Clean Yangon announced that it would be doing the Cleanup Challenge in Yangon. Later, people are joining the Challenge not only in Yangon, but it has reached to the countryside. In total, there are more than 100 cities involved in the Cleanup Challenge.”

“In Yangon, more than 60 charity organizations are doing the cleanup challenge. First started with over 500 volunteers, we were cleaning the drainage system, in 42nd St and 43rd St.”

On May 19, it will be 2 years for Clean Yangon that has been running. So, Ko Zay Yar Tun, Founder of Clean Yangon said, Clean Yangon will present recognition letters to volunteers who actively joined in the Clean Yangon activities. Moreover, public special talks on environmental care will be carried out together with other fun activities including performance and music show.

“We aim that by 2020, we can go “Green Yangon and Green Myanmar”. There will be display booths for 3 R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle).”

There is a quote coming from Lil Wayne saying, “I always believe that to be the best, you have to smell like the best, dress like the best, act like the best. When you throw your trash in the garbage can, it has to be better than anybody else who ever threw trash in the garbage can”

“Collecting trash is not a shameful thing. Public participation is so important to make a better city and a better country. So, Clean Yangon is inviting everyone to join in the campaign Green Yangon and Green Myanmar.”
